Block Source Editor

Edit the native source of one selected Gutenberg block — without switching the entire page to Code Editor.

No telemetry · No frontend assets · No external service dependency

FOCUSED SOURCE ACCESS

Work on the block you actually need.

Select a block, open Edit block source, make the change and apply it back through the WordPress block editor.

  • Selected block and nested blocks
  • Native Gutenberg serialization
  • Validation before replacement

1 block

Edit only the selected Gutenberg block tree.

Native

Work directly with WordPress block serialization.

Free

Focused Gutenberg source editing without a frontend footprint.

WHY IT EXISTS

The middle ground between visual editing and full-page source.

Sometimes the visual editor hides the detail you need. WordPress Code Editor solves that by exposing everything. Block Source Editor gives you a narrower option.

Keep the rest of the document out of the way.

Open the source for the selected block, including its nested blocks, make the change and return directly to the normal Gutenberg workflow.

Useful when: inspecting serialized attributes, repairing block markup, changing nested structures or making source-level edits that are awkward in the visual interface.

EDITOR FEATURES

A source workspace built around the selected block.

The scope stays deliberately narrow while still giving developers practical control over Gutenberg source.

Source editing workspace

Edit Gutenberg block markup in a dedicated source interface without exposing the entire document.

Nested blocks included

Select a Group, Columns block or another container and work with the complete block tree nested inside it.

Validation before replacement

Edited source is checked before it replaces the selected block, reducing the risk of applying malformed block source.

Selected scope

The editor starts from the block you selected instead of loading the entire post source.

Native block source

Work with the same serialized block structure WordPress itself stores and parses.

Editor-only footprint

No Block Source Editor assets are required on the public-facing website.

HOW IT WORKS

From visual block to source and back.

The workflow stays inside Gutenberg and takes only three steps.

STEP 01

Select a block

Choose the block you want to inspect or modify in the editor or List View.

STEP 02

Open block source

Open More Options and choose Edit block source.

STEP 03

Edit and apply

Make the source change and apply the validated result back to Gutenberg.

FREE OR PRO

Start with the block. Go further when you need to.

Block Source Editor stays focused on selected blocks. Source IDE Pro extends the source-editing concept to complete WordPress documents.

FAQ

Block Source Editor questions

Does Block Source Editor edit the complete post source?

No. It intentionally works with one selected block and the nested block tree inside it.

Can I edit nested blocks?

Yes. Selecting a container such as Group or Columns exposes that selected block together with its nested blocks.

What happens if the source is invalid?

The plugin refuses to apply source it cannot safely parse and validate, leaving the existing block unchanged.

Does it send my content anywhere?

No. Block Source Editor contains no telemetry and does not send your block source to REEID or another external service.

When should I use Source IDE Pro instead?

Use Block Source Editor when you need precise access to one block tree. Source IDE Pro is designed for broader source work on complete WordPress documents.
