PLUGIN INTELLIGENCE
What the official plugin evidence shows
Plugin capabilities
- Monitors SEO-critical per-page outputs and records diffs over time, including title/meta description, meta robots (with a tripwire for `noindex`), canonical URL value changes, structured data/schema types (JSON-LD, including nested `@graph`), Open Graph and Twitter card tags, first H1 and H1 count, and HTTP status/redirect target.
- Performs site-wide checks for `robots.txt` drift (including an alarm if it blocks all crawlers), XML sitemap reachability/validity/URL-count drops, and the `blog_public` “Discourage search engines” switch.
- Triggers checks both on a schedule (via WP-Cron) and immediately after relevant site events, attaching the preceding site events (e.g., plugin/theme/core updates, activations/deactivations, theme switches, SEO-relevant setting changes, and page edits) to the resulting log entry.
- Uses server-side loopback fetching of the site’s own public URLs (user agent “SEOFlightRecorder”) to re-check monitored pages; it resolves redirects itself and records off-site redirect destinations as critical changes without following requests off-site.
- Provides an “armed baseline” snapshot mechanism to capture monitored pages before updates and then compare afterward, writing differences to the flight log.
- Delivers alerts by email for changes above chosen severity and marks critical findings as resolved when they stop being detected; includes a dashboard widget and keeps the flight log by default (with optional trimming, while unresolved critical findings are never trimmed).
- Exposes operational interfaces including WP-CLI commands (`wp seo-flight-recorder check` / `status`, with `–format=json`) and a REST endpoint (`GET /wp-json/sfrec/v1/status`) protected by the same `manage_options` permission as the admin screens.
- Read-only behavior: it does not edit SEO output, does not generate meta tags or schema, and does not crawl other websites; it records what the server-rendered HTML outputs and alerts on changes.
