  • Supports Query Loop post templates via a “Post Link” mode so each card surface opens the corresponding post permalink.
  • Automatically switches between two navigation/linking strategies: “anchor mode” when the block has no inner links (single “ wrapper), and “host mode” when inner links exist (avoids nested “ output and uses front-end behavior to open the Smart Link URL from non-link areas).
  • Provides a Cover/Featured Image lightbox navigation option (“Enlarge on click”) that uses WordPress core lightbox behavior; in this mode the block area itself is not treated as a whole-block link.
  • Offers “Include in page lightbox gallery” for core lightbox-enabled blocks (Cover/Featured Image/Image using core lightbox) so enlarged images can be navigated within the same page.
  • Can link a Cover to its background image file (Link to image file), with optional new-tab behavior and sidebar controls for link destination and related attributes.
  • Developer/theme integration points exist via filters (e.g., `forwp_smart_link_supported_blocks`, `forwp_smart_link_has_inner_links`, `forwp_smart_link_use_host_mode`, and related Cover/Featured Image/lightbox filters) and uses front-end assets such as `assets/forwp-smart-link-frontend.js`.
