- Supports optional points of interest (POIs) that can be displayed with title labels beside an existing POI icon, without affecting the route line.
- Provides POI marker customization including built-in marker styles (Dashicon, theme-class, or plain POI markers), individual POI background colours, and nearby POI grouping with click-to-spread behavior.
- Supports route/marker presentation options such as alphabetical or numbered route markers, duplicate map marker handling, and configurable styling (route colour, marker colour, marker text colour, POI colour, map height, border radius, and marker numbering).
- Renders maps using Leaflet with Leaflet JavaScript/CSS bundled locally (no icon CDN), and displays OpenStreetMap standard tiles loaded in the visitor’s browser when a map is displayed.
- Offers optional road-following route calculation via openrouteservice when an administrator supplies a valid API key; otherwise, markers are connected using a dashed straight line.
- Provides a shortcode-based display mechanism (`[bxtr_map]`) and supports passing a post ID for use in templates/loops; also supports shortcode parameters to show only POIs (e.g., `route="no" poi="yes"`).
