PLUGIN INTELLIGENCE
What the official plugin evidence shows
Plugin capabilities
- Automatically renders Open Graph meta tags in the HTML “ for posts, pages, archives, and other supported page types.
- Generates core Open Graph properties including `og:title`, `og:type` (general `article`, front page `website`, blog homepage `blog`), `og:image` (from featured image when supported), `og:url` (current page URL), `og:site_name`, `og:description` (full excerpt when available, otherwise derived from content; author/archive pages use page type and title), `og:locale`, and `og:locale:alternate` (for additional locales when WPML/Polylang are available).
- When a featured image is available, adds additional image-related Open Graph metadata: `og:image:width`, `og:image:height`, `og:image:url`, `og:image:secure_url`, and `og:image:alt` (with `og:image:alt` omitted if the derived alt/caption/description source is empty).
- Uses the featured image Alt Text first for `og:image:alt`, otherwise falls back to the image Caption, and then to the image Description; if all are empty, the `og:image:alt` property is not rendered.
- Provides developer hooks/filters to modify meta tag content and output, including `open_graph_protocol_meta` (modify `content` value per property), `open_graph_protocol_meta_tag` (modify the rendered “ HTML per property), `open_graph_protocol_metas` (add/remove metadata before rendering), and `open_graph_protocol_echo_metas` (modify the rendered “ HTML block).
- Provides an integration framework hook `open_graph_protocol_framework_ext` to determine whether additional meta tags should be produced for supported integrations (filter receives a boolean and integration identifier).
- Declares compatibility with WooCommerce to include essential product metadata on product pages (as part of its supported integrations).
