- Caches files on disk and automatically invalidates cached content when the site is updated
- Requires no configuration and provides no options or configuration screen (works out of the box)
- Cache invalidation/clearing via toggling plugin activation or via WP-CLI command `wp surge flush`
- Cache-miss behavior: does not cache when logged into WordPress, when a unique browser cookie is present, or when requests include unique query parameters (with common marketing parameters like `utm_campaign` treated as exceptions)
- Only caches requests using HTTP methods GET and HEAD; other request methods are not cached
- Supports bypassing caching for specific requests when the request includes `Cache-Control: no-cache` (or `max-age=0`)
- Provides compatibility note for hosts where `fpassthru()` is disabled, including an alternative `fpassthru_alt` configuration option
